It would be an understatement to say the Wellesley fifth grade junior football team had a good season.
“From the beginning of the season we were saying that if the other team can’t score then we will win and we just kept saying that,” said Wellesley coach Rob Broggi.
Wellesley’s 32-0 win over a bigger Milford squad on Nov. 20 capped off the Raiders perfect season.
Wellesley led 25-0 at the half and scored one more time, thanks to a successful fake-punt pass, to clinch the title.
Wellesley’s seventh grade team came up just short of its fifth-grade counterparts as the older Raiders lost 12-0 to Shrewsbury in their own championship game.
The two-time Bay State Mass Youth Football Championship seventh grade team, coached by Andy Renzella, played for their third state title, and second straight, and ended its season with a 10-2 record.
“Even the second and third grade teams, even though there is no playoffs, they had a great season and the future is looking pretty bright for Wellesley football.”
